Anne Winkworth Art
My paintings are expressionistic in nature and explore the relationships between vibrantly bold
colours and exciting colour contrasts and combinations.
I primarily work in oil paint because it is medium that can contribute to the surface texture of
the canvas and invites playful and textural brushstrokes which helps to enhance the
conveyance of my vision, and emotional involvement with the subject.
Working on larger canvases allows me to engage in spontaneous and intuitive expression
because it offers a physicality to the painting process, where my movements and gestures
become an integral part of the artwork.
When viewing my paintings, I want to elicit an emotional response to the spirit and energy of
my subjects rather than presenting a literal or traditional representation. Its my intention to
transport viewers to a reality that is as compelling as the one I experience and
aligns with Albert Giacometti’s belief that “The object of art is not to represent reality, but to
create a reality of the same intensity”
